Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity of confirming that after a long wait our business will be once again fully operational and open to welcome our customers to visit from Monday April 12th. In the first months back, we will be operating appointment only visiting, please contact our sales or service teams at Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld to make a booking.
The pandemic has had wide ranging effects on all of us throughout 2020 and now into 2021, whilst negative financial effects are of course important they pale into insignificance compared with the serious health impacts that so many families have experienced, and we hope that you, our loyal customers have managed to stay safe throughout this period. We will of course be working very differently than in “normal” times and I would like to ask you to work with us in protecting other customers and our staff when visiting our site.
As an insight into our business, we have experienced very challenging lows and highs including a total closure during the first lockdown, four months of partial closure (working behind closed doors) and of course attempting to react to the incredible surge in demand during the summer months of 2020.
As an industry our brands are wrestling with huge demand across the whole of Europe (particularly with the German market). Due largely to the negative financial forecasting made during the first lockdown coupled with the explosion of sales thereafter, the industries’ suppliers have struggled to keep up with demand and we have experienced significant cancellations of orders due to chassis supply and the brands are now experiencing a global supply chain issue affecting parts from nearly all areas, causing delays in most models currently in production.
If this news was not bad enough we have also been largely affected by a post Brexit world and although careful planning was made in the lead up to 31st December, our team were let down by the late nature of the deal agreed, both ourselves and our brands have been left in a bureaucratic nightmare where certain paperwork required to avoid the 10% duty charge upon importation has still not been made available and this matter presently remains unresolved and we await confirmation from Germany as to a satisfactory conclusion.
We are extremely aware of how important it is to you receiving the motorhome you have bought or having your motorhome serviced to allow you to holiday in the UK throughout this year and we are working tirelessly with our brands to find solutions required, however many of these issues are out of our hands currently. It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that there will be disruption and delays to the supply of brand-new motorhomes and aftermarket parts/accessories throughout 2021.
The Travelworld team will do everything within its power to communicate information as soon as we have it. We have made many changes to our processes to attempt to elevate the pressure on the business once the supply situation is resolved, so we are able to react quickly to the ever-changing situation.
